LIONS OF MEDINA

Many of you are aware of our long association with Jack Ruffer, our HR and Leadership mainstay since we started Adamen, Inc. Julie and Jack began working together back in the early 1990’s when Julie was the general manager for a large association in Southern California and Jack was a board member and president of that association. Julie soon learned that Jack had a wealth of knowledge on subjects important to the community management professional and took the opportunity to learn from him. We’ve frequently recounted his professional credentials citing his experience as a senior level manager for a Fortune 50 company that was often the subject of business school case studies at  universities across the country and we told you about his academic background and degrees. Well, as it turns out, we left something very significant out. Much of his early experience in leadership came from a far different source than the academic institutions where many managers learn their skills. The story is true and you won’t be able to put the book down:

"…these Marines were special. Surrounded. Outnumbered. Out of ammunition. Never defeated and, in the end, victorious."

Our Jack Ruffer is one of the principal characters in the new book, Lions of Medina, by author Doyle Glass. At the time Jack was a young Marine First Lieutenant serving as an infantry platoon commander in Vietnam with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines. Soon after release the book earned Book of the Month honors from Leatherneck Magazine and the Military Book Club and was named Best Book of the Year (2007) by USA Book News (Click here for link).
