Why Your Company Needs One By Jack Ruffer
Org Charts are a graphic depiction of the way a company or corporation is organized, its lines of authority, responsibility, and communication. Show me an Org Chart and I can quickly identify who is responsible for what. It makes it easier for new hires to understand where they fit in an organization; it makes it clear where they should fear to tread and it tells everybody where to go for information or services. Once adopted, an Org Chart also make is less likely that anyone will be left out of the communications loop. It can also occasionally be used as a hammer: “Not in my department, you don’t,” she said emphatically.
Who said, “A picture is worth a thousand words?” Probably a marketing person at Kodak, but whoever said it, they were absolutely right, in fact, a picture is far beyond what most words can adequately describe, and so it is with Org Charts. An Org Chart is a picture of an organization taken at a moment in time, which of course means it is not static, it is not constant, and it is always subject to change, as it should be. |
